Perfectly Imperfect: celebrating imperfection in art
As an artist, I’ve learned that not every brushstroke will be perfect, and sometimes, the artwork just doesn’t come together the way you envisioned it. It's a challenge that many artists face, especially in the world of impressionistic florals where the goal is to capture the essence of nature with fluidity and movement.
There are moments when a flower feels too flat, the colours too dull, or the composition just doesn’t breathe life. When this happens, it’s easy to get frustrated, but that’s when the magic happens: learning to step back, assess the piece, and try something new. Sometimes it’s as simple as adding a splash of a contrasting colour, softening a harsh line, or even walking away from the canvas for a while to let fresh ideas surface.
Impressionism is all about capturing a fleeting moment, and sometimes that means letting go of perfection and embracing the process. Art isn’t just about what’s on the canvas — it’s about the journey of creation. So, when things don’t quite work, it’s just a part of the PATH. The key is to keep pushing forward, trust the process, and remember that every piece, even the ones that don’t turn out as planned, teaches you something new.
If you're struggling with a piece, don't be afraid to experiment, change direction, or simply take a break. Every challenge is just another step closer to discovering your unique artistic voice.
